We hope you enjoy this festive season with your family and friends. Whether you are traveling near or far, we want you to stay safe and comfortable on the road. Here are some tips to help you plan your trip:
SLOW DOWN, DRIVE SMART
- Slow down and drive safely for the road conditions
- Keep your distance - leaving more room between vehicles and signaling early
- Brake early and slowly to prevent skidding
- Stay in control – don’t rely on cruise control or other self-driving features, don’t overestimate four-wheel and all-wheel drive capabilities, and look out for black ice
- Keep your focus – avoiding unnecessary distractions
- Look ahead and pay attention to the vehicles in front of you
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
Be prepared by checking the weather and road conditions before you go! Visit the National Weather Service to stay up to date on weather conditions and forecasts. Get the 411 on driving conditions by checking out New England 511! View real time road conditions by checking camera footage along New England travel ways. Customize the app to highlight your regularly traveled routes and even opt-in to receive direct alerts for major incidents and conditions where you drive! DON’T CROWD THE PLOW
Give our snowplow drivers plenty of room to work and don't pass them on the right. Be aware that a snowplow driver’s vision is restricted; you may see the driver, but the plow driver may not necessarily see you. Track the location and routes of plows throughout the state with VTrans Plow Finder.
